A Mini Guide to Gourmet Markets in the Hamptons

One of my favorite things about life in the Hamptons is how even the most routine errands — like grocery shopping — can feel like an experience. Whether you’re prepping for a beach picnic, hosting a last-minute dinner party, or just stocking your weekend fridge, the right market makes all the difference.

Here are some of my go-to gourmet markets across the East End — from iconic institutions to local gems — each one offering something a little special.

Round Swamp Farm

Locations: East Hampton, Bridgehampton, Montauk

Known for its fresh produce, daily-baked treats, and feel-good family-owned vibe, Round Swamp is a staple. You’ll find farm-fresh tomatoes, addictive salsa, and the kind of baked goods that disappear from the counter before you’ve even unpacked the groceries. Come early — locals know the best stuff sells out fast.

Loaves & Fishes Foodstore

Location: Sagaponack

A Hamptons institution since 1980, Loaves & Fishes is all about quality over quantity. Their prepared foods are legendary — think lobster salad, duck mole enchiladas, and decadent brownie pudding — all made in-house. The shop also features their own line of farm-to-table cookbooks and upscale pantry staples. It’s small but mighty, and a must-stop for any foodie.

Cavaniola’s Gourmet Cheese Shop

Location: Sag Harbor

If you’re curating a cheese board, this is the place. Cavaniola’s offers an impeccably curated selection of cheeses, charcuterie, olives, and wine. It’s intimate, elegant, and perfect for grabbing a few elevated ingredients that instantly upgrade your table.

Red Horse Market
Location: East Hampton

This neighborhood favorite is where you go when you want your errands to feel indulgent. From imported Italian staples to fresh pasta, bread, and pastries, Red Horse is one of those places where it’s impossible to leave empty-handed. The prepared foods are also top-notch — great for last-minute entertaining.

Villa Italian Specialties

Location: East Hampton

A classic Italian deli that’s packed every weekend — and for good reason. Their sandwiches are legendary, the mozzarella is house-made, and the pasta salads and baked ziti are exactly what you want after a long beach day. It’s no-frills in the best way possible.

Harbor Market & Kitchen

Location: Sag Harbor

Tucked off the main drag, Harbor Market feels like a cozy, modern general store. They offer breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, baked goods, and grab-and-go meals, plus a curated selection of snacks and small-batch pantry finds. It’s ideal for a casual lunch or a stylish snack run.

Schmidt’s Market

Location: Southampton

Family-owned and full of heart, Schmidt’s is a Southampton standby known for its deli, catering, and prepared food counter. It’s less of a scene and more of a neighborhood gem — the kind of place you stop into for one thing and walk out with dinner, dessert, and half the store.

The Village Cheese Shop

Location: Southampton

This charming European-style cheese shop offers artisanal selections, paired with crackers, wine, and specialty items. The setting is just as beautiful as the product — a perfect stop on the way to a dinner party or picnic.

Whether you’re a weekend visitor or a year-round local, these markets are more than just places to shop — they’re part of what makes the Hamptons so special.
